Xtrem Hop 3: Sorachi Ace
This should be the most interesting one of the three. Apparently this is a japanese hop variant that almost disappeared and was regrown in the USA where it is still a small crop but growing more important because of its aromatic qualities. More and more micro-brewers use it, so I was looking forward to this beer.
The aroma is bitter and hoppy (of course). In the mouth the first impression is also of bitterness, but in the back and the aftertaste fruitiness, wood and a certain smokiness develop. A very peculiar beer, this.
I really loved this series, but the Columbus stays my favourite...and I think I know now why I like the Jandrin-Jandrenouille beers so much. Hop US hop !!!
